What a nice meeting!

Today I visited a neighboring prefecture to meet up with a friend of mine. She has been enjoying brushing up on her English since she moved there. Now she has been glommed onto Korean as well as English.

As there were snow flurries, I didn't use an express way so as not to have an accident. That's why I was late, but she and her friends welcomed me warmly. There were eight of us today. We got down to introducing about ourselves. Each self-introduction intrigued me a lot and their spontaneous enthusiasm to brush up on their English really inspired me to greater efforts in order to attain an advanced level.

The cafe we had the meeting was a darn nice place. It's not only a cafe, but it also sells hand-crafted and imported goods. During our meeting, many visitors came into the shop to browse or have lunch.

Well, I took part in the meeting for just an hour and half. It sounds insufficient, but I felt fulfilled and decided to move onward and upward along the path I choose. :D

That's interesting, isn't it.

This morning I visited a local community center in order to have an English meeting with my fellow English-lovers. We had not met up after the new year holidays, so I was thrilled to meet them and have an English conversation.

This time I was in charge of the meeting, so I had prepared a few English materials such as listening quizzes, a crossword and an English article.
After having a natter together in English we got down to them. They were simple, but some of them seemed to confuse other members.

I enjoyed having today's meeting, but at the same time my talk was abysmal as usual...^^;

Stay Hungry, Stay Foolish

I was supposed to take part in an English workshop, which is regularly held on Wednesdays, this morning. However, I had no other choice but to pass up because my son and I have been under the weather. As for my condition, it's not serious (nor is my son's), but I've been hoarse from a bad cough, and my son had a slight fever. That's why I decided to be absent from today's meeting although I had been looking forward to meeting regular members and having discussed English materials.

One of our members had recently recommended an interesting article to us.
Speaking of "Stay Hungry, Stay Foolish", there is only one man that springs to mind: Steve Jobs. The member had found his commencement address at Stanford University.
Although I couldn't participate in today's meeting, I listened to his speech on the Internet and read the material meticulously. It was well worth reading I thought. :D

Our fulfilling time

I took part in the English club I belong to this morning. This time there were six of us, including the native English speaker who regularly participates.

After making small talk, we got down to discussing on the article I had sent. The caption of the article was "Deadly Dangers of Texting Exposed". It said how much danderous it is for us to text while we're driving, and a telecommunication company has been making efforts to raise drivers' awareness, for teens who sit behind wheel in particular.
The article was very clear to grasp and there were no words over our heads.

After that, we were divided between pros and cons, and tried to debate. We were given only one minute to form our opinions and sum up main points. I'm not familiar with debating, so it was very helpful for me to learn logical thinking and speaking. It was, of course, challenging, though...

My speech was horrible and far from convincing to the others, but I'd like to try again to improve my English skills.
