In a limestone cave

A scorching summer has been raging in Japan. To make my family cool and enjoy the last Sunday of our son's summer vacation, we visited Hiraodai limestone caves--http://www7.ocn.ne.jp/~yokomizo/dou-fukuoka.html--.

The caves are well known for sightseeing. Cars were strung on the street for the biggest cave, so we went to another one, which is called "Ojika".

Here is the entrance.

As you can imagine, it was so cool and made us very comfortable to stay. :D My son was excited and went on and on by himself, ignoring us. ^^; We very often said, "Please wait for us, son!" haha

This time, we visited only one cave, but we'll visit the biggest one next time, I hope. :D

It might be better for me...

To improve our reading skills, it's said that we should read English books, newspapers etc. I usually read a few English newspapers such as Japan Times.

The other day, I got some information that The New York Times would be better to read if I want to attain an advanced level. I've tried to read as many articles as possible, but I feel it's rather harder for me to grasp than The Japan Times...^^; Moreover, those of the articles are longer, so it takes some time to read them.

I don't want to end up reading by halves, nor do I want to read without understanding. That's why I decided to read an article in The New York Times and another English periodical. It's Newsweek. I think it's easier to read and useful like The New York Times when it comes to gaining new vocabulary. :D

Keeping and keeping!

For his birthday

Oh....I hadn't posted any journals for a while....--;

Anyway, I've been tied up with my work and taking care of my family as ever, but I feel fulfilled as I had mentioned before. ;D

This Saturday is my husband's 38th birthday, so I'm thinking about what present will please him. In addition, I'm musing about the dishes I'll make for the night. If you have any ideas, please let me know.

He seems to grow up.

This morning, I went out to make a room reservation for the English workshop I took over.

As my son's in the middle of Summer vacation, I had thought he would go with me. He told me, however, he would stay at home. And he added that he wanted to write a few mails and draw some pictures for his close friends while I was out.
Needless to say, I was so worried about that because I expected it would take around two hours to go shopping for today's dinner besides making the reservation. On top of that, he used to go out with me anytime.
I wanted him to go out with me, yet I tried to leave him to stay at home. After all, I thought it might be time for him to grow up.

Anyway, when I came back home, he said " Oh, too early, mom."

........................................Oh, boy......

You're growing up day by day.....

I should endeavour more and more...

Ever since I got a result of the TOEIC, I've been considering how I should brush up on my reading skill. Although I managed to get over 400 on Reading Section, I still don't have confidence in my reading skill.....I can say it was an "accidental score" this time....

Not only should I endeavor to enhance my reading skill, but I should get knack of answering questions quickly on Reading Section....

The other goal

Last month I took the TOEIC test. I've been struggling hard to get over 900 on the test. This afternoon I got the result of the test.

Listening >>>>475
Reading >>>>>>410

Total >>>>>>> 885

I wasn't able to reach 900, but I managed to get an all-time high score. :D
I'll get down to learning for the 1st grade of the STEP test and keep trying to get over 900 on the TOEIC.

For the first time for him...

I've just arrived at my home after an overnight trip. My husband had to work, so I drove all the time. Don't get me wrong, driving is one of my hobbies, so I was willing to drive for the trip. :D

Well, during the trip, we had tens of thousands of memories. As for my son, he was always excited and had irreplaceable experience.
The purpose of the trip is to give pleasant memories to our kids. In addition, we wanted them to learn or feel something regarding the World War Two. August 15th is the anniversary of the end of the war in Japan. On our way home, we dropped by a peace memorial museum. It was Tachiarai Peace memorial Museum. (http://tachiarai-heiwa.jp/)
I didn't have experience the war, but I should have to pass the story of the war on to the next generation.
To add to that, we must not forget that once we behaved atrociously toward Asian countries during the war.

A busy holiday?

My English lessons for the second term have started this month. That sounds I've been tied up with my work, but I'll have Bon holiday this week. The in-laws and my family are supposed to have an overnight trip to Oita. My parents-in-law suggested the trip to us. Needless to say, I jumped at the plan because I want my son to have pleasant memories with the in-law's kids during his summer vacation.
To my sadness, my husband will have to work this week, so he can't come with us this time. (His Bon holiday is just this weekend...T T)

Well, to add to the trip, I'm supposed to visit my relative because my maternal aunt passed away this May. This summer(Bon festival) will be for the first time for her, it's what we call "Hatsu Bon"-初盆-.
On the day I'll go back, I'll visit my parents-in-law to stay with the in-laws and my family.

Does it sound my Bon holiday will be hectic!?

I did nothing but.....

Today my husband had to work and I didn't have my English lessons. (Usually, I give my English lessons to kids on Saturdays. But a local festival is supposed to be held today, so I had rescheduled today's lesson.) I had more spare time than usual.

After I did household chores and whatnot, I got down to studying for English through an English radio program. As I had recorded a few lessons, to begin with I transcribed these vignettes. And then, I memorized useful expressions and words, although some of them slipped out of my mind easily. haha

Well, the text books, which I regularly listen to, are piling up, so not only should I keep up with every lesson, but I should also review the back numbers not to forget the new words etc.

The second term

My English lessons for the second term are supposed to start today. I had a week-long holiday and felt refreshed.

A few students entered my classroom halfway through the first term, so they'll be still nervous when they take my lessons. I hope they'll find English very interesting.

To my happiness, one of my students recommended my classroom to her friend and she's supposed to take today's lessons with my regular students. :D The more new students enter, the stronger my regular students' motivations are.
