In for a Penny, In for a Pound

I guess there are a lot of mothers who have trouble handling with their children when it comes to getting them to do their homework. I have to admit that I'm one of them.

My son is in the 5th grade and into playing football. He's basically punctual and honest, but often lazy. I know he's a typical elementary schooler. I'm not always a tiger mom, but there's only one thing that I'm always telling him: Stick to what you should do by all means. For example, even though you have football practice, you must finish your homework.
I want him to learn how to organize his schedule and manage his time effectively step by step.

He finishes doing his homework every day, but he's liable to be lazy during his summer vacation or other holidays. I understand that stuff happens. However, even though I told him to get down to his homework during his autumn holiday, he was too lazy and didn't manage to finish it. Finally, my patience has snapped. When he realized that he should have got down to it earlier, it was too late. In fact, it was his first experience, so he seemed disappointed at himself and to learn how half-baked his plan was.

See? I'm always telling you. You should turn over a new leaf!
I hope my words hit home to him....
