What Do You Think?

When I watched the following news, I was pissed off and sighed: A sumo referee ordered a few women to leave the ring during emergency.

I understand sumo is considered our national sport and has a long history, not to mention how sacred the ring is and how important our tradition belief is. This time, however, it is high time to rethink our mindset.

A mayor suddenly collapsed on the ring during his speech. His hands and legs were cramping. It obviously seemed emergency, but every staff was upset and they didn't seem to know how to perform basic life support. A few minutes later, a woman rushed to the mayor and conducted cardiac massage. According to the news, she is a nurse and that makes sense. She knows what to do when an emergency happens. Following by the woman, a few more women rushed to the ring to help him. At the time, a sumo referee ordered the women to leave the ring because women are forbidden to enter the ring. A majority of the audience might not be able to believe the announcement during the emergency. Some might think that is a taboo in our culture, women must not enter the ring and we should follow it.

Some news seem to stir our feelings and a women mayor seems to lump women's rights in with this case, though,
don't get me wrong. I don't mean women shouldn't be forbidden to enter the ring or I don't mean we should break the long taboo. I mean we should think flexibly, depending on the situation like this emergency.
